Abstract
Wearable pressure sensors have been widely used for the applications of human pulse measurement, however, acquiring reliable signal is difficult due to the discordance between the location of the sensor and the optimal sensing point where the pulse gives maximum output. In this work, we develop a pressure sensor array based on inkjet-printed active matrix organic thin-film transistors for spatial mapping of arterial pulse. For reliable spatial sensing, we introduce design rules and optimization process for the fabrication of inkjet-printed TFT arrays which resulted 100% yield and high uniformity (variation <10 %). We strategically modulate the operating voltage to substantially increase the pressure-sensitivity while reducing operating power for wearable applications. Finally, we demonstrate spatial mapping of arterial pulses which not only exactly located the artery but also acquired accurate pulse wave from the pixel that gives the maximum pressure output. The developed device could potentially be used for medical applications such as catheter injection to artery, or tonometry analysis.
