Abstract

The brain stimulation methods have received considerable attention use in the study and the treatment of neurological diseases. It is generally known that stimulation with electric field interacts with the cortical neurons, resulting in excitement or inhibition of neuronal activity in a specific brain region. Although the brain regions are highly vascularized, it remains unknown if electric fields effect on blood–brain barrier (BBB). In this study, we investigated the effects of electrical stimulation on BBB cell according to stimulation conditions in vitro. This study demonstrates that electric stimulation alters the structure of the BBB in specific conditions.
