Abstract
Metasurfaces (MS) that are composed of the arrays of nanostructures have been considered as the promising platform to make advances in flat optics due to their capability to construct programmed holographic images by modulating the phase and amplitude of incident light. Because previous metasurface systems are passive, however, their practical applications have been impeded. In this presentation, we show a simple and versatile approach to enable dynamically tunable metahologram systems by leveraging the unique properties of liquid crystals (LCs). We demonstrate the new class of active metahologram, a thin-layer of LCs integrated with multiplexing MS (LC-MS), to sense a target stimulus and dynamically switch the holographic images. This attribute provides insight into the rational design of interactive meta-hologram display that enable their full potential. In this presentation, we also discuss new approach to provide superior selectivity into LC-MS.
