- Abstract
- This thesis presents the improvement of color and spatial sensing usability of optical see through head mounted display (OST-HMDs). OST-HMDs cannot express black color, and users feel difficulties in seeing clear images due to the influences of ambient lights. As a solution to this, I proposed an opaque AR system with a 2nd display added in front of the OST-HMDs. The 2nd display blocks ambient lights or acts as a color adjustment filter. In addition, I proposed a two-fold color compensation concept that combines an image feedback compensation with the 2nd display compensation to overcome the limits of the 2nd display by distorting the image output of the OST-HMDs. Furthermore, I conducted a basic study for a LiDAR which can improve the angular resolution for short distance such as room scale in the OST-HMDs. In particular by adopting liquid crystal (LC) to manufacture solid-state LiDAR, beam steering is obtained by a solid-state LiDAR without any moving components.
