- Abstract
- Superhydrophobic surface has resistance to water so it is known that has anti-frosting ability. On the other hand, superhydrophilic surface has high attraction to water so it can cause more frost than bare surface. This wettability differences are commonly used in industry for anti-frosting heat exchanger. However, superhydrophobic heat exchanger shows edge frosting effect which does not occur in plate frosting. Edge frosting easily blocks air flow of heat exchanger which causes efficiency drop. In this study, we show patterning of both superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic surfaces on heat exchanger fin can reduce edge frosting and increase heat exchange efficiency.
