- Abstract
- Today’s manufacturing enterprises have to deal with coverage of the whole product life cycle, environmentally conscious manufacturing, simultaneous improvement of productivity and sustainability, and enhancement of total performance of the product through the entire life cycle. However, the majority of contemporary manufacturing system enterprises face fundamental problems internally, due to poor visibility into shop floors, inaccurate demand forecasting, supply shortfalls, and difficulty in individualized production control, etc. To cope with these issues, a new manufacturing paradigm should be developed. In this dissertation, a new paradigm called ubiquitous factory (u-Factory) by applying ubiquitous computing technology to the manufacturing system is proposed and a systematic approach to implementation of this paradigm is carried out. The u-Factory is based on UbiDMR [1], meaning product design, manufacturing, and recycling via ubiquitous computing technology. TO realize vision of u-Factory in industrial field, a process to derive a scenario considering the vision comprehensively based on field requirements and implement the scenario by systemizing it should be followed. This dissertation, to support this process systematically, proposes (1) an attribute-based methodology which could use in scenario derivation process to allocate functions generated by considering the vision of u-Factory comprehensively to components of u-Factory and (2) an SOA-based architecture which could refer to in implementation process to exchange information between various types of u-Factory components regardless implementation platform. Using the proposed methodology and architecture, scenario derivation process and implementation process for an example of resource management are illustrated with prototype development. This dissertation will help manufacturing industries which want to build up ICT-based factory of future like u-Factory systematically to reduce efforts to implement it.
