Abstract
Since the early 21st century, researchers have been exploring MEMS technology for satellite thrusters, developing various microthrusters with different substrates. While end-users now have numerous control hardware options, MEMS-based thrusters have limitations in material and physical properties, hindering their scalability and mass production. In our study, we adopted Lab-on-PCB technology as an innovative alternative to traditional MEMS fabrication in microfluidics. We utilized printed circuit boards as the foundation for both solid and liquid monopropellant thrusters. This approach offers exceptional structural stability, scalability advantages, and cost-effective mass production capabilities. Our innovation aims to seamlessly integrate a satellite's electronic control system with its propulsion system, introducing the concept of a fully functional Lab-on-PCB microthruster. This breakthrough has the potential to transform satellite technology and advance space exploration.
