Abstract
In recent years, intensive research into wearable healthcare devices that employ a range of flexible conductive materials with medical IoT has been extensively conducted to monitor human vital signals. Monitoring of human vital signals is crucial for detecting bodily abnormalities, enabling early diagnosis and efficient medical treatments. Especially, monitoring of cardiopulmonary function provides valuable insights into individuals’ cardiovascular health and assists medical staff in delivering prompt and accurate medical treatments. Despite the ongoing demand for a patient monitoring system including cardiopulmonary monitoring which can be used in real-world clinical settings such as the intensive care unit (ICU), it has been challenging to integrate them into real-world settings and prove their effectiveness. Herein, we present a wearable patient monitoring system (WPMS) featuring a modularized and cable-free design. The device incorporates a biosensor platform that is capable of recording both ECG and dual-wavelength PPG simultaneously, along with a Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) based mechanical sensor for respiratory signal measurement. With its own data transmission profile and user interface, it is possible to visualize and save the data in real time. The result of the clinical study indicates the potential of the proposed system to address the limitations of conventional patient monitoring systems.
