dc.description.abstractAir Starter is used for the start of medium-speed diesel engine. One of the main parts of air starter is the axial air turbine stage. In this study, design of one-stage supersonic axial air turbine for air starter has been performed. The turbine blade was designed based on mean-line analysis. A supersonic nozzle was designed based on the turbine operating conditions and the rotor was designed using a supersonic blade design method. 1-D design method and numerical analysis with CFD were conducted in determining turbine performance.Finally, the comparisons of CFD simulation with experimental results were performed. Torque or power generated from the test turbine was measured to evaluate the performance of turbine. With the consideration of the turbine torque losses, CFD simulation and experimental results shows good trends.en_US
