- Abstract
- Gd0.8Sr0.2Co1-xMnxO3 (x = 0.0-1.0) was studied as a possible candidate for use as a cathode in a solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC). The distorted perovskite system Gd0.8Sr0.2Co1-xMnxO3 showed orthorhombic structure of the GdFeO3 type, for x = 0.0 to 1.0. Electrical conductivities of dense sintered samples were measured from room temperature to 900 degrees C, and Gd0.8Sr0.2Co0.9Mn0.1O3 showed the highest conductivity of around 250 S cm(-1) at 870 degrees C. The thermal expansion behavior of the Mn rich compositions, however, showed the best compatibility for use with an yttria stabilized zirconia electrolyte for SOFC applications.
