Abstract
Recursive sidelobe minimization (RSM) is a very effective technique to reduce the sidelobes of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image in the presence of multiplicative noise. However, it has little effect on the range sidelobes when used in a linear SAR using range-doppler algorithm (RDA). Therefore, we modified the RSM technique to use with RDA and simulated the imaging of a simple point target in the presence of multiplicative noise. The results from the simulations and experiments with real linear SAR data show that the proposed modification of the RSM can reduce the sidelobes not only in the azimuth direction, but also in the range direction without causing additional blurring.
