- Abstract
- In this paper, we developed new design concept for the structural surface that transmits and receives the electromagnetic signals, and it is termed Surface-Antenna-Structure(SAS). Design procedure was presented including structure design, material selection and design of antenna elements, which were processed according to the satellite communication at Ku-Band (12.25 - 12.75 GHz). The final demonstration article was a 350 x 200 x 7.35 mm flat antenna panel with 16 x 8 array antenna elements. Electrical measurements of the fabricated structure were satisfied with design requirements, showing bandwidth over 1 GHz and gain over 20 dBi, although sidelobe level is not obtained below -15 dB. We confirmed that SAS could support external loads as a structural surface with excellent antenna performances.
