- Abstract
- The partial spectral weights of disordered Au-Ag alloys are obtained from the valence band photoemission spectra using synchrotron radiation, taking matrix element effect into account. We make use of the Cooper minimum phenomenon of the Ag 4d states with the measured photoionization cross section ratios. The near coincidence of the Au 5d(3/2) and the Ag 4d(3/2) energy positions predicted by the theoretical calculations is observed throughout the whole composition range. However, the experimental Ag partial spectral weights show that the Ag 4d(5/2) states mix strongly with tile Au 5d(5/2) states, contrary to the non self-consistent coherent potential approximation result.
