Abstract
A model management system (MMS) is one component of a generalized decision support system (DSS) architecture which provides for the creation, storage, manipulation and access of models. Several significant research opportunities exist concerning artificial intelligence application for MMS to enhance its major functions. Thus, here the existing literature is surveyed and categorized based its treatment of model representation and model manipulation functions. With increasing use of DSSs by industrial engineers, it is time for industrial engineers to examine what is currently happening in this important area of information technology.
