- Abstract
- Vibration control of plates with a passive electrical damper is presented in this article. This electrical absorber, piezoelectric patches connected with a resistor and an inductor in series, is analogous to the damped mechanical vibration absorber. For estimating the effectiveness of the piezoelectric absorber, the governing equations of motion are derived by applying the classical laminate plate theory and Hamilton's principle. The theoretical analysis developed is validated experimentally for the Simply Supported aluminum plates to demonstrate the performance of a passive electrical damper. The model developed presents an invaluable means for designing and predicting the performance of a smart plate that call be used in many critical engineering applications.
