The rapid growth of the Internet has led to tremendous network management complexities. This is largely due to the rapid changes in network technology, traffic behaviour, and service environments, which require communication systems to be more robust, scalable, and adaptive to such changes. Biological systems exhibit these characteristics and have tremendous capabilities to adapt to environmental changes. In this chapter we present a bio-inspired framework for autonomic communication systems, where the framework can be applied to infrastructure or ad hoc networks as well as service environments. Case study applications of the framework for infrastructure network have also been presented.-
