Abstract
An on-line model is presented for the prediction of temperature distributions in hot strip rolling. The model in the roughing mill and finishgin mill regions consists of an analytic model for the prediction of temperature distributions in the inter-stand zone, a semi-analytic model for the prediction of temperature distributions in the bite zone in which thermal boundary conditions as well as heat generation due to deformation are predicted by finite element-based, approximate models. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model is examined through comparison with predictions from a finite element process model. The model in the run out table region consist of an thermodynamic model[24], phase transformation model[24], and temperature model for the prediction of temperature distrebutions. The utility of proposed model is examined through comparison with predictions from an old model. The analytic model for the prediction of temperature distributions in the coiling region is developed. The prediction accuracy of the model is examined through comparison with predictions from a finite element model
