- Abstract
- In the steel mill industry the improvement in the operation of coke ovens has received wide attention since it directly relates to the quality of the products, the performance of the units, and the energy saving. The operation to now usually relies on the experience and guidelines given in the beginning without any attempt to analyze and improve the performance, especially gas outlet flow distribution within gas sole flue of the coke oven. It was mainly because there were no distributed measuring probes for this and no appropriate simulation tools for the analysis on the performance. Thus, only a few study has been reported on this issue. The factor directly affecting the coke quality stability and combustion control is gas outlet flow distribution. In this study, a simulation tool, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), was used for the effect of nozzle plate hole size and inlet flow rate on gas outlet flow distribution in the gas sole flue of coke oven. Then it was found that the inlet flow direction against the guide plate affect the outlet flow distribution and operating modes. And even if the hole size of the nozzle plate were increased linearly, gas outlet flow distribution pattern was not linear. In addition to, after door replacement or repair, the middle part of the nozzle plate hole should be resized for optimal control of combustion.
