- Abstract
- This research suggests an effective reverse engineering process and methods to support the suggested process based on Systems Engineering. Reverse engineering process is the process of extracting design information from the techniques used in the original production of an existing product. The purpose of reverse engineering is to make clones or enhancing the quality of existing goods effectively and efficiently. In particular, companies modeled after advanced products can gain benefits from reverse engineering, which permits them to imitate manufactured goods effectively and efficiently. Some papers have suggested processes to implement reverse engineering effectively and efficiently. However, these papers have some limitations, which include vague process suggestions, the omission of operational considerations, and non-recursive applications of processes. In this study, a detailed and effective reverse engineering methodology is proposed through the analysis of systems engineering standards, such as ISO/IEC 15288(2008). This methodology was applied to develop a case study of the concept design of annealing furnace system. Finally, the process was validated through a comparison with existing reverse engineering processes.
