- ABSTRACT
Coke Oven Gases (COG) are very useful energy sources in industrial steel plants. COG are cleaned through the absorber column (Scrubber) in gas treatment process because contaminants in COG lead to corrosion and blockage in utility pipe line. Remained hydrogen sulfide is one of the biggest reason of the corrosion and blockage. Improving efficiency of removing hydrogen sulfide can help prevent the corrosion and blockage. However, the investigation for impact factors for removal H2S is difficult because of complicated reaction among NH3-H2S-CO2.
The target of this study is to examine impact factors for removal of H2S, so that the results can be used of optimizing gas treatment operation in the industrial plant. The Aspen Plus 8.8 rate-based model is employed to simulate the gas treatment process. Since the equilibrium of absorption column processes is rarely attained at a stage, the equilibrium stage model is inapplicable to simulate the processes. Instead of that, the rate-based model considering the driving forces of mass transfer is investigated by reconciliation of the simulation results and the industrial plant data.
Temperature, flowrate of solvents, concentration and different kind of solvent are considered as impact factors in this study. These results can be used to optimize gas treatment process in the industrial plants.
