Abstract
In cold strip rolling, the prediction of roll force is essential for rolling process control. However the classical theories of rolling are widely used in practice although finite element methods give a more precise and detailed analysis of the deformation during cold strip rolling. Using the finite element (FE) process model, a series of FE simulations were conducted to investigate the effect of diverse process variables. Then, the non-dimensional variables were derived from some variables describing the behaviour of the roll-strip system, on the basis of the boundary value problem associated with cold rolling. And, hypothetical mode of rolling and linear interpolation were used for the non-dimensional parameter. In conclusion, it was shown that, the selected non-dimensional parameter may be transformed into the roll force model which applied to precision process set-up and control. The prediction accuracy of the proposed approach was examined through comparison with the prediction from FE process simulation.
