This thesis proposes a method of improving luminous efficiency (EL) of plasma display panel. The proposed method uses a 2-step energy recovery (ER) circuit which includes two different ER paths (ER 1 and ER 2). Each ER path has a resonant inductor. The resonant inductor for ER 1 path disperses resonant current to decrease reactive power, while that for ER 2 path supports initial discharge current and decreases effective power. The proposed circuit uses a voltage regulator to maintain the voltage of the ER capacitors and to maximize the ER current for discharge. The circuit was tested on a 50-inch FHD (1920×1080) single-scan AC PDP. Compared to the Weber ER circuit, total current supplied through ER paths increased by 4.5 % and power consumption decreased by 10 %. As a result, EL increased by 9.14 % for a 4%-window pattern.en_US
