Abstract
This paper presents a precision on-line model for the prediction of the roll force and roll power and roll wear distributions in a round-oval (or oval-round) pass rolling sequence, which is most commonly employed in rod and wire mills. The approach uses the concept of ideal rolling, to reduce the number of the dimensionless parameters with which the model is constructed. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model is examined through comparison with the predictions from the FE model. The prediction accuracy is also examined through comparison with the measurements made in POSCO No. 3 wire and rod.
