- Abstract
- Intraocular lenses(IOLs) are artificial lenses that are implanted to replace the eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery. Monofocal IOLs with single focus are common, but multifocal IOLs are getting popular by allowing multiple focuses. However, human eyes are usually aberrated, and their performance in aberration conditions has not been well characterized. We measured the performance of 3 different IOLs in spherical aberration conditions. A bench-top IOL simulator was constructed by adding a deformable mirror and a Shack-Hartmann sensor for aberration induction and measurement, respectively. 3 different Zeiss IOLs (mono-, bi-, and tri-focal) were tested in spherical aberration conditions. Multifocal were more sensitive to spherical aberration than monofocal, and multifocal might not be appropriate for people with high spherical aberrations.
